Miggy

On January 27, 2013, I had the pleasure of hosting and taking part in the first annual MLBDirt.com Fantasy Baseball Mock Draft. First things first, I want to thank Jonathan Mitchell, William Tasker, Daniel Marino, Charlie Nehl, Mike Schwartze, Wayne Bretsky, Ray Guilfoyle, Mike Hilbig, Mark Kaplan, Jeff Furtah, and Alex Kantecki for taking part in the draft. We had a mix of MLBDirt.com writers and six well respected Fantasy Baseball writers. All of these men are recommended follows on Twitter and I will give you their contact information at the end of the article. One thing that makes Fantasy Baseball fun is the different opinions you can get. These guys all have great insight and baseball knowledge.

2012 MLB Mock Draft: March Edition

College baseball is in full swing and high school baseball is getting underway. With that, it is time to start to looking towards that June draft more and more. Jonathan Mitchell and I have decided that we will be doing several mock drafts leading up to the draft and we would like to introduce the first of our MLB Draft mock drafts. It is still so early and so much could happen between now and the draft but we can still guess at where guys might go at this point. Jonathan and I alternated taking picks, providing some commentary on each pick as well. Here is the first addition of the MLB Dirt 2012 Mock Draft.

Final MLB Mock Draft

With the draft starting at 7pm EST we wanted to get one final mock up. There is a curculating rumor that the Mariners will take Francisco Lindor with the second pick but no hard evidence to prove it. If that does happen then blow up 99.999% of mocks. These picks are based more on what I am hearing through many media outlets and based on trends by teams and their scouting directors, with some picks being educated “gut picks”. Here it is:

MLB Mock Draft

Doing a mock draft is so much fun but, reader beware, no one, and I mean no one, gets a good amount of the picks correct. Certain teams stay incredibly quiet, some teams have higher-ups that butt-in and take “their guy” (I’m looking at you, Rockies, when the scouting director wanted Evan Longoria but he was overruled in favor of Greg Reynolds) and bonus demands have not fully been leaked. Either way, they are still fun to do and to read, no matter who does them. With that said, here is my attempt at my first Mock Draft of the year:

Pick Team Player
1  Pirates  Gerrit Cole (RHP – UCLA)
2  Mariners  Anthony Rendon (3B – Rice)
3  Diamondbacks  Trevor Bauer (RHP – UCLA)

5  Roylas  Danny Hultzen (LHP – Virginia)
6  Nationals  Bubba Starling (OF – HS, KS)
7  Diamondbacks  Sonny Gray (RHP – Vanderbilt)
8  Indians  Alex Meyer (RHP - Kentucky)
9  Cubs  Matt Barnes (RHP – UConn)
10  Padres  Francisco Lindor (SS – HS, FL)
11  Astros  Taylor Jungmann (RHP – Texas)
12  Brewers  Jed Bradley (LHP – Georgia Tech)
13  Mets  Cory Spangenberg 3B – (Indian River St. Col.)
