When people hear the term “dual threat” associated with baseball, they automatically assume that a player is proficient in another sport other than on the diamond. However, there are other types of dual threats, and they don’t always have to be associated with sports. Minor league infielder Chris Tremblay is a great example of that, as he is as proficient with his bat and glove as he is with his pen.
Tremblay was selected by the San Diego Padres in the 19th round of the 2009 MLB draft, out of Kent State University. He was a star for the Golden Flashes, hitting .322 for his career, and holds the school record for assists at shortstop. One of the best skills he brought to the San Diego organization was his versatility and since beginning his professional career, he has played at every position except for catcher, pitcher, and center field. In three minor league seasons he has hit .246 with 1 home run and 60 RBI over 190 games, and provided excellent defense at every position he has played. During this off-season, Tremblay received news that no young player ever wants to hear. He was released by San Diego, and for a time questioned if and when his baseball career would continue. Fortunately, he has since signed with the Baltimore Orioles organization and will be working to make his mark with his new team.
In addition to Tremblay’s baseball ability, he is also a burgeoning writer. He has recently put his literary talents on display by starting the noblest aspect of writing – the blog. I first became aware of Chris and his writing ability by reading a post he had written about his experience in getting released by the Padres (You can read that post by going here) I found out that on his blog he writes mainly from a more literary angle, tackling topics that strike his fancy during his travels. He is truly one of the more gifted and interesting professional baseball players you will come across.
