Sandy Alderson Forgetting an Important Factor

With catcher and pitchers two months away from reporting to Spring Training, Mets GM, Sandy Alderson, is forgetting an important factor….PITCHERS AND CATCHERS REPORT TO SPRING TRAINING IN TWO MONTHS!  In other words….do something!  The Mets outfield right now consists of Lucas Duda, and no one in particular.  The Mets bullpen consists of Frank Francisco, Bobby Parnell, and no one in particular.  Granted, signing David Wright to an extension was paramount, but there is still work to do.  Is the Dickey situation consuming all of Alderson’s time?  Can he not do two things at one time?

For crying out loud…the Pittsburgh Pirates have signed a free agent.  Small market teams such as the Rays, Mariners, and Royals have also signed free agents.  I understand the Mets had financial issues, but they gained some flexibility when they reached on agreement to defer Jason Bay’s final year.  So again, I have to ask….what’s the plan for the 2013 Mets and why are you waiting to make a move?

Just how patient are Met fans supposed to be?  If you were looking to acquire Wil Myers from the Royals, that ship has now sailed.  If you have to, look to over-the-hill players such as Bobby Abreu, Grady Sizemore, or Matt Diaz to fill the outfield spots for a year.  Perhaps look to Houston to acquire a Justin Maxwell for CF.  Here’s a thought: reach out to Chad Durbin, Todd Coffey, or Takashi Saito so that when Terry Collins pulls his starting pitcher, there is actually another pitcher available to pitch.

Make a move Mr. Alderson.  No longer use money as an excuse.  Get the Mets some players.  You’ve lost eight players to free agency.  You have replenished zero spots on the roster.

  1. And please stop low-balling R.A. Dickey! It’s quite insulting the offers they are sending his way.

  2. It’s embarassing what they’re doing with Dickey. Look at the contracts that have been given to .500 pitchers. It’s disgraceful….then again, Met fans are used to it.
