2011 Top 175 Prospects

There is no need to bore you with multiple paragraphs that you will not read or maybe skim over at best. Everyone wants to see the list, whether they will agree with it or not. One note is that I did not include anyone that does not qualify as a rookie, meaning anyone over 130 at-bats, over 50 innings pitched, or more than 45 days on the active roster will not make my list. Hope you enjoy it, critique it, and then tell me how awesome I am.

  1. I like how you have Trey McNutt as the highest Cub. Brett Jackson gets a lot press and praise, but I think McNutt will end up a better player in the end. Outside of 1 bad outting McNutt has been good this spring, while Jackson has struggled.

Pretty sad when I’m recognizing most of the guys on that list!

  4. Just looking at top 100:

    High on:
    Travis d’Arnaud
    Arodys Vizcaino
    Miguel Sano
    Zack Cox

    Low on:
    Jake Odorizzi
    Alex White
    Brett Jackson
    Chris Sale
    Jurickson Profar

    Surprising inclusions:
    Carlos Matias/Martinez

    Surprising exclusions:
    Tanner Scheppers
    Danny Espinosa

    • This is just based on various other lists and comparing. Not a judgment on any of the guys.

    • I’m not huge on Espinosa due to his lack of discipline. I think he would swing at a pitch-out right now.

Alex White just looks like a #4-5 right now from video I saw. I can’t put him higher right now. Sale is a reliver and I even felt naughty listing him that high. If he remains a reliever I will feel bad for giving him a top 60 ranking.

I love Sano the way I love Matias. So young and SO much upside. High reward guys but high risk too. Matias/Martinez’s feel for pitching along with his mid-90s FB, slider and change, at such a young age made me say WOW when I watched video.

      • Hey, when you’re sitting fastball, pitchouts look wonderful!

What are your thoughts on Odorizzi?

  5. I love Odorizzi but he needs a third pitch. He won’t survive as a starter with two pitches for long. If he develops that third pitch he could jump to top 50 for me. I have him in my Franchise league so I hope he does. Haha!

  6. Well done.
I am trying to strengthen my knowledge of top prospects and this list will definitely help with my research for future fantasy baseball-related impact articles.

  8. Your not alone. Not many people know who should be the #1 first baseman on any prospect list. Paul Goldschmidt, AA, Diamondbacks. Even if you didnt see this year coming I think his last two years 1.045, .990 OPS is a nice indicator that he is worthy of top level mention. I wont spoil his numbers this year take a look for yourself

  9. Sorry, but Hosmer > Goldschmidt and it’s not even close. Don’t get me wrong, I like Goldschmidt and he just missed my rankings and my concerns were that he was one of the older players in a big hitter’s park last year and his swing is very long and he still struck out 161 times in a league of players younger than him. He is off to a smoking start this year and he will rise up most lists but I would like to see him in AAA this year before he jumps into my top 100.
